Cooking together

There are many health problems today that can be directly linked to our modern diets. Many people do not make or eat food that is prepared from fresh, whole ingredients. Nanna’s Cooking school was launched with the intention of bringing the tradition of making fresh, healthy food back to our community. We decided to start in the classroom, where we partner with schools and teachers to put fresh ingredients in the hands of children and teach them about cooking. This hands-on approach offers students a fun and new way to learn about food quality, nutrition, recipes and preparation.

Nanna’s Cooking School

Cooking Together is an initiative that runs one-day workshops in prisons. People employed in a local business work alongside people who are in prison to teach them how to prepare meals for the other people who live and work on their wing. The day concludes with the trained team serving the food they have made and everyone eating together. Being involved in our community in this way gives more meaning to the work of my staff and it exposes people in prison to a trade that is noble and useful. It is part of our commitment to our community that we help people find meaning and purpose in through their work while also creating a qualified workforce.
I have found people in prison are keen to work hard given the opportunity. A successful business is one that goes beyond profits, where everybody benefits, and I think this initiative is a good example of that.
